The San Jose Police Department recognizes the importance of effective and accurate communication between its personnel and the community they serve and as such developed the San Jose Police Department Language Access Plan.

The purpose of this plan is to establish effective guidelines consistent with Executive Order 13166, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, for department personnel to follow when providing services to, or interacting with, individuals who are limited English proficient (LEP).

As part of this plan, Department members will take reasonable steps to provide LEP persons with timely and meaningful access to available programs, services, and benefits as described in the plan. The Department will use internal Department resources prior to seeking external resources for LEP individuals.

The "Language Access Plan" (Español), (Tiếng Việt) has been developed by the SJPD to help residents with limited English skills.
