SJPD Arrests Suspects for Armed Robbery and Attempted Homicide

On June 8, 2024, at approximately 5:27 AM, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and armed robbery that occurred in the 1500 block of Oakland Road. Upon arrival, Officers discovered that an adult female victim was approached by an unknown adult male suspect who sexually assaulted her. As a separate adult male came to the female victim's aid, he was immediately assaulted by multiple unknown adult male suspects. The suspects also forcibly took the female victim's purse along with other belongings. The male victim was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives began a thorough and comprehensive investigation and identified suspects Michael Valdez and Joseph McDuffie. During the investigation, Detectives discovered that the two suspects were also responsible for an armed robbery and attempted homicide that took place at the same location. On June 9, 2024, at approximately 5:31 AM, the suspects robbed three adult male victims at gunpoint. Suspect Valdez ordered one of the victims to lay on the ground after robbing him of his items, and discharged his firearm at least once in the direction of the victim.

Subsequently, on June 22, 2024, suspect Valdez was involved in another incident when SJPD Patrol Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 2600 block of Pendragon Lane. The victim reported that a known adult male, later identified as suspect Valdez, discharged a firearm inside the residence at the victim during an altercation. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for both suspect Valdez and suspect McDuffie.

On July 2, 2024, SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives arrested suspect Valdez in the city of San José and booked him into Santa Clara County Main Jail for armed robbery and attempted homicide. Detectives served a search warrant at suspect Valdez' residence in the city of San José. During the execution of the search warrant, a handgun was seized.

On July 3, 2024, SJPD Robbery Unit Detectives arrested suspect McDuffie in the city of Campbell and booked him into Santa Clara County Jail for armed robbery.
