***UPDATE*** SJPD Arrests Suspect for 2016 Homicide #27

On July 17, 2016, at approximately 9:55 AM, San José Police Department Officers responded to the 400 block of North First Street for a report of a deceased person. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim who was suffering from at least one stab wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

SJPD Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene and began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Despite investigative efforts, a suspect was not identified or apprehended at the time of the incident.

In 2022, the case was re-examined by the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Cold Case Team. Investigators identified Marco Iniquez Jr. as a potential suspect. With the assistance of the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Cold Case Unit, San José Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Suspect Iniquez.

On May 30th, 2024, Officers from the special operations MERGE Unit and Covert Response Unit located and apprehended suspect Iniquez in the city of Aromas. The suspect was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for murder. 

The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

This was the City's 27th homicide of 2016.

"During the first half of 2024, the SJPD Homicide Unit closed six cases from prior years, two of which were joint investigations with the District Attorney's Office Cold Case Team," stated SJPD Homicide Unit Commander Lieutenant Barg. "The San Jose Police Department values this collaborative relationship and will continue to seek justice for the victim's of unsolved homicides."
