On April 9, 2024, San José Police Department Patrol Officers responded to a report of a sexual assault of a minor that occurred at approximately 5:26 PM in the area of South 11th Street underneath the Highway 280 overpass. Detectives from the San José Police Department Sexual Assault Investigations Unit (SAIU) immediately took over the investigation and discovered that a female minor victim was walking home from school northbound on South 11th Street when an unidentified male suspect riding a dark-colored bicycle approached her and pulled her underneath the highway overpass.
The male suspect sexually assaulted the victim and prevented her from leaving. After the victim fought off the suspect, he fled the scene on his bicycle.
SAIU Detectives have identified the suspect as Julian Salvador Martinez and is requesting the public's assistance in locating him. Martinez is described as a 50 year old Hispanic male adult, medium build, approximately 5’11” tall with dark hair and a thin mustache. The suspect was wearing a black baseball cap with yellow lettering and a black sweatshirt with white lettering at the time of the incident. He also had light colored pants with black sneakers.
The suspect is known to frequent the following areas: the creek area adjacent to Keyes Street and Senter Road, commonly referred to as "the jungle", and the area of East Williams Street and South 10th Street.
Information has surfaced that the suspect is aware that he is wanted and had been evicted from his encampment.
