On June 14, 2022, Officers investigated a suspicious device that was located near the intersection of Delmas Avenue and Coe Avenue in San José near the private residence of an elected official. San José Police Bomb Squad technicians responded to the scene, and determined that it was a functional homemade destructive device. The device was seized, rendered safe, then booked as evidence.
San José Police Department Assaults Unit Detectives conducted thorough and extensive follow up. In January of 2024, the suspect was identified as Andres Navarro, a resident of San José.
SJPD Assaults Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect. On January 16, 2024 the SJPD Covert Response Unit (CRU) located and arrested the suspect, and Detectives executed a search warrant at his residence. During the search, a field guide for improvised explosives was located amongst the suspect's property.
