ARRESTED |
On April 13, 2023, at approximately 9:30 AM, patrol Officers responded to a report of a suspect brandishing a firearm near the intersection of Quimby Road and Remington Way. During the preliminary investigation it was determined that the suspect had brandished a firearm from his vehicle at another driver during a road rage incident. Officers positively identified Suspect Michael Myers as the suspect responsible. Myers had fled the area, but Officers from the Field Training Program took it upon themselves to conduct follow-up on the investigation.
The Recruit Officers, with the assistance of their FTO's, obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, and a search warrant for his residence.
On April 28, 2023, patrol Officers located the suspect and subsequently took him into custody without incident. A contingent of patrol Officers served a search warrant at the suspect's residence in San José. An emergency gun violence restraining order was obtained and served by the Recruit Officers. Officers located and seized the following:
- 21 semi-automatic and bolt-action rifles
- 16 handguns, three of which were Privately Made Firearms (Ghost Guns)
- Two Shotguns
- One full-auto submachine gun
- 10,000 rounds of ammunition
The suspect was later booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail. This case is yet another example of the culture of proactive policing that is fostered through SJPD's Field Training Program, a national model since 1972.
"The recruit Officers took it upon themselves to locate and arrest a person who had demonstrated he was no longer a responsible firearm owner," said Chief of Police Anthony Mata. "Our FTO Program is always improving and these Recruit Officers showed great initiative and epitomize our belief that less guns on the streets equates to less violent crimes committed in San José."
