On April 20, 2023, at approximately 3:12 PM, patrol Officers responded to the area of W. Santa Clara Street and N. 2nd Street to investigate a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:
A 2021 Chevrolet SUV, driven by an adult male, was reversing at slow speeds northbound on the west curb of 2nd Street when it struck an adult female pedestrian crossing N 2nd Street. in an unmarked crosswalk. The adult male driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.
The adult female pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and stabilized. On April 22, 2023, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
This is the 10th fatal collision, and the 11th traffic death of 2023. This is also the 8th pedestrian death of the year.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
